Aline Alagem

The painted image is at the core of Aline Alagem’s large scale, figurative installations in which the painted image meets the painted object and the moving image. While the image is “hyper-defined”, both technically and conceptually, it is fragmented, duplicated, and manipulated; challenged for its validity, appeal and cultural charge.

In this sensually dense arena, borders transform and fade, media merge and dichotomies between high and low, wrong and right, real and imagined are blurred. They continually unfold a world of visual, scripted fantasies in which erotica, dream, fetish and anonymity suggest a deeper flux: gender and identity are a core issue in Alagem’s work.
