Shayan Rose Ben-Sira

Raku is a Japanese firing technique for ceramic pots with glaze, which creates an appearance of lines and cracks. The technique originated in Japan during the 16th century- the word Raku means easiness, comfort, pleasure, and happiness. Ceramic pots created using this technique fit into the Buddhist “Zen” aesthetic, which finds flaws insignificant.

The inspiration for my work comes from the ocean- the various sea creatures, fish, sharks,

corals, and shells of every shape. Even the texture and sound of the pots when touched or

tapped resemble the shells themselves.

Shayan Rose Ben Sira - mother of 4 children, graduate of goldsmith academy, several courses and workshops in the ceramic field over the years. Today, an independent ceramics artist. I create useful pots as well as works of art using the Raku technique and the creation of pallets.
